The reason I've called this blog "A Child of 70" is that I've learned to find joy in the simplest things. Every day I find myself marveling at commonplaces (hot and cold water never stops feeling miraculous to me!). We are far from wealthy -- we take no trips, we very rarely eat out, our car is from 2011 -- but to me we seem blessed beyond belief. Every day I find myself thanking God for something many people take for granted, like a hot shower or a purring cat.
Honestly, I never imagined I would be this happy. And it has everything to do with my faith.
It seems as if God has given me what some might call a "second childhood," although I consider it my first, given how traumatic my actual childhood was. Even as I struggle with numerous Lyme disease symptoms, I'm grateful to have been healed from my mental health problems.
If I were asked if I'd rather be physically or mentally healthy, I would immediately answer "mentally." That healing happened to me half a lifetime ago. I've suffered plenty of physical and neurological pain since then, but I know I received the healing I needed the most.
And that healing has made it possible for me to find joy in simple things.
