Fairy Tales for Grown-ups

One of my favorite authors is Kate Morton, an Aussie who writes rather complex, multi-timeline books. When I first discovered her, I immediately felt like a child discovering something magical and exciting. I described her books as "fairy tales for grown-ups" because of the way they made me feel.

While I know I can never achieve the level of writing that Morton has, I recently realized that I can apply that tagline to my own stories. And that has become a goal.

To quote one of my favorite childhood books, A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett:

"Of course the greatest power Sara possessed and the one which gained her even more followers...the power that Lavinia and certain other girls were most envious of, and at the same time most fascinated by in spite of themselves, was her power of telling stories and of making everything she talked about seem like a story."
